  • Visit one of the cool places on Earth!

What to learn?

Falling within the core activities of ARTEK, the International Semester 2010 will cover these specific topics:

  • Constructing light and passively
  • Biogenic waste, exploitation and disposal
  • Renewable and accessible energy

The International Semester is aiming to provide the students with basic and advanced skills within these topics.

The International Semester will be comprised of lectures, exercises, project work, and work in the field. It will include a major project of your choice within one or more of the above topics. Evaluation will be based on presentations, essays, and reports.

Teaching will be done by faculty members and scientists from DTU and collaborating institutions, for example from within the University of the Arctic. Teaching will take place partly based on on-going research activities in Sisimiut, for example the Low Energy House, the newly installed solar heating plant, the Democratic Sustainability project in the settlement of Sarfannguaq, waste water treatment plants and more. All activities will be in English.

We are currently developing the above topics in more detail. As they become more concrete this page will be updated.

Credits

Participation in the International Semester and successful evaluation will earn you 30 ECTS points, corresponding to the half of a full academic year. It will be your responsibility to carry out the transfer of credits to your home institution. However, we will provide the necessary documentation, including a certificate and other documents that you might need.

Suggested prerequisites

Eligible are all students holding a Bachelor degree in science or technology from an accredited university. If you are interested, but have a different background, please contact us.

When and where?

The International Semester will take place starting at the end of January 2010 and ending at the end of May 2010. You will spend the first four weeks at DTU, which will include a Welcome Meeting and Introduction Week and three weeks of studying. The rest of the International Semester, about 13 weeks, will take place in Sisimiut, Greenland. Depending on the activities that you decide for your major project you may get the chance to visit another part of Greenland.
